Field eXpedients: WHAT WRONG LOOKS LIKE

Posted in Camouflage Strap on October 27th, 2011 by admin – 25 Comments

0 Field eXpedients: WHAT WRONG LOOKS LIKEThis U.S. Army 68W (formerly 91W) Combat Medic needs some serious Field-X help! He and his comrades are to be praised for “what-iffing” their load bearing system’s functionality but now have to DO SOMETHING to fix it.

1. Buy MULTI-CAM (MC) ACUs or wear Nomex, fire-resistant TAN flight suits; get MC or TAN helmet cover, its your life, get into effective camouflage

http://www.combatreform.org/bdufixes.htm

2. Get rid of BLACK leg holster it imposes energy cost/mobility loss with every leg motion, attach pistol to chest

3. Ditch LARGE BLACK medical backpack; use smaller MULTICAM or 3-color desert or ACU (if you must due to unit politics) SKEDCO M3A CPT Ernie Blanco Assault Pack with quick-release shoulder straps

http://www.combatreform.org/SKEDCO2000/m3aclsassaultpack.htm

4. Cover NVG mount with Bull Simons IFF/Rank-ID/Cover or at least paint exposed mount TAN

http://www.combatreform.org/nvghelmetcover.htm

5. Camouflage your M4 carbine; TAN spray paint 30-round magazines, handguards and buttstock, pull-carry cord the mags

6. Use some of that middle class $ income to buy MULTICAM or TAN Nomex gloves and elbow and knee pads. Consider using BALLISTIC knee/elbow pads to get a 2-for-1 capability:

http://www.tacarm.com

If you are stuck wearing ACUPAT ACUs whenever you can cover it up with better camo color

7. Attach MOLLE pouches DIRECTLY to IBA flak jacket to save 3 pounds of load bearing vest weight or if you prefer a TLBV draped over IBA, USE A TAN MOLLE ONE OR IDEALLY A MULTICAM ONE to rectify the ACU’s ACUPAT colors.

8. Get burlap sacks, cuts strips and tie to everything to break up outline as taught at EIB

http://www.combatreform.org/camie.htm

If the Soldier LOOKS overloaded its because HE IS.

http://www.combatreform.org/combatlight.htm

http://www.combatreform.org/combatjump.htm

This is the REALITY of what the non-linear battlefield demands. FANTASY sports attire PT every morning in the Army must be stopped FOREVER

http://www.combatreform.org/apft.htm

by wearing ALL your combat gear EVERY DAY to duty so we can shake-down these things NOW and build weight-carrying stamina and speed not BS high school distance running team deja vu.

Field eXpedients: LT Richard Todd Helmet Camo Kit dynmicpara

Posted in Camouflage Strap on October 21st, 2011 by admin – 21 Comments

0 Field eXpedients: LT Richard Todd Helmet Camo Kit dynmicparaThe British Army Paras lead the way in WW2

with personal camouflage jump smocks and netting on their multiple attachment point chinstrap helmets

http://www.combatreform.org/chinstrap.htm

that strips of cloth were tied to, creating effective blending in and breaking up of its distinctive outline. In contrast, American M1 Steel pot helmets wobbled with only a chinstrap and its netting was under-utilized by American Paras for camouflage. The non-Airborne infantry units didn’t even have netting and went into combat with shiny green helmets. Is it a wonder we suffered over 385, 000 dead and over 1, 000, 000+ wounded in WW2? 6 years later in Korea, we were doing the same piss-poor non-camouflage practices and added another 53, 000 dead. In Vietnam, we tried to insert cut vegetation into helmet covers but this dried out and fell out.

http://www.combateform.org/camie.htm

http://www.combateform.org/cvccamouflage.htm

The British Army however, particularly their Paras kept on with what works best: netting and strips for helmet camouflage.

Finally after their stunning success against all odd in the Falklands in 1982;

http://www.combatreform.org/USNAVYINDANGER/falklandslessonsnotlearned.htm

The American 82nd Airborne and Light Infantry Divisions “saw the light” and began wearing “ragtops”; strips sewn directly into the PASGT kevlar helmet cover. Victories in Grenada (1983)

http://www.combatreform.org/grenada.htm

and Panama (1989)

http://www.combatreform.org/combatjump.htm

validated the practice but we got lazy again when the ragtops were taken off in favor of “chocolate chip” 5-color desert camouflage for Operation Desert Shield/Storm in 1990-91. What should have happened is the helmet–with netting—should have had its moist vegetated area green cloth strips switched out for TAN cloth strips. That would have been the ideal situation. Sewn-in ragtop helmet covers run for about $50 each and that CD player is sooooo much more important than creating a desert camouflage ragtop. Yeah, right. How many CDs can you listen to DEAD?

Fast forward to today’s despicable mess where U.S. Army Soldiers and marines in Iraq/Afghanistan are wearing NO helmet camouflage are getting killed and maimed needlessly–

–the marines are morons and don’t know any better; they’ve never had a clue about WHAT RIGHT LOOKS LIKE; the American Army on the other hand HAS the institutional memory, so this video was made to bring this common sense back to life.

This video is also more than a stroll down U.S. Army victory “memory lane”; it details how you can create a DETACHABLE CLOTH STRIP helmet ragtop NOW at ZERO COST using materials available at even the most god-forsaken FOB. The video shows using unused BDU buttons, but if in a hurry you can simply cut a slit by your existing helmet cover’s camo slots so gutted 550 cords can be tied by knots to the cover so cut TAN strips can be tied to the cords. What’s our excuse now?
